Gwen indicated that the Career Pathways Showcase, which has been held for the past three (3) years in October, will still be held but will be done in the spring instead.

Gwen also indicated that toolkits were available and were ordered for “HotJobs, Cool Careers” for the Michigan Construction Careers organization.  These toolkits are geared for kids in 5th grade who may be interested in construction types of construction/trade apprenticeships/opportunities as a fun way of learning academics.  They will be distributed to area principals.

Access to Democracy project was discussed as a learning opportunity for the group.  A handout concerning the description of the Access to Democracy project was distributed.  After discussion it was determined that the group would like to take part in this and that Michelle Ribant would be asked to lead the dialogue at the next scheduled meeting.

Other Business:

EUP students will be invited to career center with the goal to get student’s attending.

It was also suggested that apprenticeship opportunity information be given to local counselors.  Pete Everson indicated that he would make some direct contact with Tony Retaske regarding the UP Construction Council for strategy ideas.

Because of the overwhelming response to the certified nurse’s aid program another training opportunity has been instituted with 14 adults registered.
