The
minutes of the
Director
Worley mentioned that the Sault Robotics Team has requested contributions to
enable the students to attend competitions.
Last year, the WDB approved contributing $500 to this program.
Due to current budget constraints, Director Worley is recommending that
the WDB consider contributing $300 this year to offset some of the costs of the
students attending this competition.
Modifications to the Food Assistance Employment & Training Plans were reviewed. Director Worley indicated that after reviewing current and projected expenses, the program would be under spent by $5,000. The State agreed to this reduction which would result in funds for the Food Assistance Program Plan to total $17,787. The State has increased the Food Assistance Supportive Services Plan by $500, which would now total $1,000. It was noted that Northern Transitions is the subcontractor of the Food Assistance Programs.
Tony Bosbous moved to approve the February 28 minutes, the $300 contribution to the Sault Robotics, and the Food Assistance Plan Modifications as presented. David Weber seconded. Motion passed.
Due to time constraints, this month’s Workforce Development Board Member Spotlights were postponed until the April WDB meeting.
Director Worley provided an update to this year’s current budget and projections for WIA program funds for the years to come. At this time, it is anticipated that there will be many cuts at the federal level so the budget would be watched closely. Director Worley will keep the Board informed as more information is received.
Several informational items were reviewed.
Director Worley described a Customer Service Training she recently was able to purchase at a reduced rate. This training would provide training to 25-50 clients for one full day or two ½ day sessions. After discussing what type of client would be best served with this training, it was determined that Work First clients could benefit the most with this type of training. Staff will work with the Department of Human Services to locate clients.
As
there was no old or new business, the meeting adjourned at
